Pentecost (Birthday of the Church)

Dear Friends

Today we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the birth day of the Church, when the Holy Spirit came down upon the disciples in a new way, encouraging them to go out into the world to preach and live out the good news of Jesus.  This weekend, we may not be able to go out into the world, fully, just yet, but we can worship in our homes and explore new and meaningful ways to live out our faith in the world and share the love of God.

Our Licensed Lay Minister, Anne Elphick has recorded our Pentecost Service for today, which we are invited to share in our homes at 10am.  The Order of Service is attached for us to follow, and the Bible readings are in the St Mary’s Mirror, also attached.  The link for the service is:

As part of his training to be a Licensed Lay Minister, Roy, were it not for the lockdown, would have begun leading a monthly service of Evening Prayer in church starting 4pm today.  As we cannot meet for worship in the church building until July, Roy has recorded his intended service for us to follow online from our homes 4pm today.  I attach the Order of Service and the Bible readings can be found in the St Mary’s Mirror.  Roy says: “I do hope you will join me for these new Evening Prayer services and that you will be able to give me lots of constructive feedback!  Thank you, Roy.”

Hardcopies of the Services and Sermons have been posted out to congregation members who are not on the internet, together with the Mirror.  Although we are separated geographically, we can worship together in spirit.  Thank you Anne and Roy for your ministries with us and to us this week.

A Diocesan Eucharist for Pentecost Sunday will be livestreamed from Southwell Minster at 10.30am today.  The link for that service is:

Following my posting of recorded services on my YouTube channel St Mary’s now has its own YouTube channel which you might like to subscribe to:
